construction, Dampcoursing is technically able to overcome any problems that might arise and successfully install a physical damp course.

More and more contractors and specifiers are choosing physical damp proof courses from Dampcoursing to ensure refurbished properties get effective protection from the risks of rising damp.

As managing director Mark Brickell states: “While chemical and electro systems have proved popular in the past, it is only a physical dpc that will act as a true barrier against rising damp problems.

“It is a misconception to believe that physical damp proof courses cannot be placed into an existing building. While the work is specialist, it is straightforward and extremely cost-effective.”

“The industry has become increasingly aware of this, and we are finding that the decision makers are specifying physical damp proof courses as their first choice.”

This method of damp proofing is suitable for walls where existing damp courses have failed, or for walls that never had a dpc – whether they be of brick or stone construction, or a combination of the two.
A central void filled with rubble may also be part of the construction. This is another area where physical damp proofing offers many more benefits than a chemical alternative.

Specialist cutting equipment is used to create a horizontal groove along the wall. Working on 1m sections at a time, operatives then place a damp proof course in the groove, bedded on mortar. Spacers are inserted along the section to support the wall and compress the bedding mortar.

The mortar course is then repointing the entire length of the work to create a finished job that is neat and tidy, without adversely affecting the traditional look of the building.

Brick wall thicknesses of up to 1m can be accommodated. Should the wall be of random course stone
